A low-threshold, strategic, and social hub for all students who enjoy chess – whether you’re a grandmaster or just getting started!
The Chess Committee is a student-run group for anyone interested in the game of chess. We host casual chess nights, internal tournaments, themed workshops, and social events where students from all programs and years can come together, play, learn, and connect.
We’re now looking for a new manager to take the lead and help us make the committee even more active and inclusive in the coming semester.
About the role:
As manager, you’ll have the overall responsibility for the operations of the Chess Committee. You’ll be the driving force – keeping things on track, coordinating with the board, and creating an engaging environment for chess lovers of all levels.
Key tasks include:
- Planning and executing events such as chess nights, tournaments, or workshops
- Helping recruit new members and increasing visibility on campus
- Working with the Finance Manager on budgets and funding
- Making sure all events feel inclusive and welcoming
- Representing the committee in mandatory meetings like ULM and GA
Who are you?
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is organized, proactive, and enjoys creating structure
- Is welcoming and able to include players of all levels
- Has a genuine interest in chess (you don’t need to be a pro!)
- Wants to contribute to a fun and intellectually stimulating student community
This is the perfect role if you want leadership experience, love chess, and are ready to bring people together around the board.
